Most of our adult dogs attend a 7 week obedience training program taught by selected inmates at Richland Correctional Institution. The Pound Puppy Program is administered by the Richland Kennel Club. The program is small with just 7 or 8 primary handlers. The dogs come from several non-profit organizations based in Ohio. Along with the five basic commands, the dogs are bathed and groomed, housetrained, cratetrained and socialized with other dogs and people. After the 7 weeks the dogs are returned to the organizations and adopted into loving homes. We are very thankful to be part of this program. It has made a world of difference for dogs that may not otherwise have been adopted. The Pound Puppy Program teaches the dogs how to learn. We recommend further obedience classes for all our adoptive homes.
